STCW 2010 have amended that the training in Electronic charts display and information systems (ECDIS) have to be provided in order to acquire highest accuracy in navigation. In actual practice these are not that much accurate than the older paper charts and also many captains feels that deck officers lack in look outs in case if they use ECDIS. In actual practice there is no chance of stating that the down time is because of the failure of the ECDIS .Many training institutes are not carrying out their ECDIS courses effectively and many old deck officers are not capable of working on ECDIS.So IMO has a look out on this ECDIS.
